When travelling for longer distances we recommend buying a seat reservation in your train. Seat/couchette/berth reservations in domestic and international transport are sold via our iKVC system (an innovated system for complex ticketing).
You may reserve your seats in all trains of EuroCity category as well as in fast trains and in selected international express trains. Some of our domestic and international trains require a compulsory seat reservation. These trains are marked with a letter “R” in a square in the train timetable.
When travelling by an SC train with compulsory seat reservation, you will need to purchase a ticket for given coach class and  pay a surcharge.
When travelling by EC train without compulsory seat reservation, you will need to purchase a ticket for the given coach class, pay a surcharge according to the type of your train. Buying a seat reservation is optional in this case.
If you board a train with compulsory seat reservation without having your seat reservation, you will be charged a fee of 3,30€. However this fee does not entitle you for a seat automatically.
Trains with optional (not obligatory) seat reservation are marked with a letter “ R” in the train timetable.  You are not obliged to purchase a seat reservation for a coach with optional seat reservation. However, if you are approached by a passenger who has purchased a seat reservation for the seat that you are occupying onboard the train with optional seat reservation, you will have to vacate the seat for him/her. If all coaches in a particular  train offer optional seat reservations, the reserved seats are specially marked. Pricelist of seat reservations, couchettes and berths
