Seat reservations

If you want to be sure that your seat or space for bicycles will be vacant for you

You can buy a seat reservation for the following train categories: EuroCity, EuroNight, Express, Fast train, Regional fast train and some Regional express trains. Seat reservation is compulsory on the InterCity, SuperCity and domestic night trains as well as in the 1st Class of all trains. For journeys to the Czech Republic seat reservation is compulsory on the EuroNight and Pendolino trains, to Poland on the trains EC 130/131 Bathory.

These trains are marked in the train timetable with the symbol of letter R in a frame G.

Reservation of space for bicycles is compulsory on all trains except the train categories Os, REX.

Advantages of reservations

  • guaranteed vacant seat
  • the price for a domestic-seat reservation is only 1 € per reservation,
  • in 1st class, the price of a seat reservation is 2 €.
  • seat reservation is also available for children under 6 y.,
  • for journeys in the 2nd Class on the night trains – on the route sections where a seat reservation is compulsory – the seat reservation for children under 6 y. is only compulsory if an individual place is needed,
  • in the 1st Class where the seat reservation is compulsory, maximum 2 children under 6 y. can travel for free, if they do not require to occupy more than 1 seat. For each occupied seat a reservation is compulsory,
  • in case that the seat you have reserved is occupied and we cannot offer you another vacant seat, we will pay you a compensation for not allocating seat (10 €). Please, make sure you get the confirmation issued on the train, details can be found in the document Prepravný poriadok ZSSK),
  • for the SuperCity trains, the seat reservation is included in the supplement fee,
  • for the InterCity trains, the seat reservation is included in the ticket price,
  • you can buy the seat or bicycle-space reservations up to the departure time from your boarding station (even if the train is delayed up to 60 min.). All seats open to reservation are marked as „expresná rezervácia“ (last-minute reservation) above the seat, passengers with seat reservation are entitled to use these.

Reservations on the night trains

To offer you a comfortable journey on our night trains, we have introduced compulsory seat reservations on the domestic night trains from 18 May 2020, except the route sections mostly used for commuting to/from work and school – on these route sections the reservation is not required.

Reservation is required and compulsory on the below listed route sections of the domestic night trains:

  • R 614 Zemplín (Humenné – Bratislava hl.st.) on the route section Poprad-Tatry – Trenčín,
  • R 615 Zemplín (Bratislava hl. st. – Humenné) on the route section Trenčín – Poprad-Tatry,
  • R 800 Poľana (Prešov – Bratislava N. Mesto) on the route section Plešivec – Levice,
  • R 801 Poľana (Bratislava N. Mesto – Prešov) on the route section Bratislava hl. st. – Plešivec.

Special offer – reservation free of charge

Free-of-charge reservation is available:

  • for 1st Class tickets, regardless of the ticket price (including special offers MAXI KLASIK and Passes),
  • for 2nd Class tickets, provided the ticket price paid is 10€ or more,
  • the offer applies for domestic services,
  • the offer is available in the ZSSK e-shop or in the ticket-desks equipped with KVC (sale of reservations for the cross-border trains which are not included in the reservation database of ZSSK is only possible in the ticket-desks). This applies mostly for the trains with their initial station outside of Slovakia),
  • if you have a through-ticket including more than one journey, you can be issued a free-of-charge reservation for each part of the journey. Currently the issuing is only possible in the ticket-desks,
  • The offer is not available on the SuperCity and InterCity trains.

  • In printed timetables – symbol  in the train header means train with compulsory seat reservation and symbol R means that seat reservation is available (optional) on this train, while only few seats have compulsory reservation in trains with optional seat reservations

  • Žilina – Banská Bystrica/Zvolen (fast trains)
  • Banská Bystrica – Margecany (regional fast trains)
  • Bratislava – Žilina – Košice – HumennéBratislava – Zvolen – Košice – Prešov (night fast trains, sleeping berth and couchette reservation available on these trains)
  • Bratislava – Prešov – Humenné (subsidiary fast train R 15711/17612 Šarišan)
