  • at ZSSK ticket offices, you can buy a paper Interrail Pass, which consists of a ticket and an envelope,
  • if you use the online shop and buy online, you purchase an Interrail mPass mobile pass, which can be activated via the Rail Planner App.

Interrail Global Pass authorizes the holder to travel once from and once to the country of permanent residence thus within the limits of its validity time.

Applies to passenger types:

  • adult
  • child
  • youth
  • twin – (People who book a Twin Pass do not necessarily need to travel together. One person can use the pass on a given day. However, the second person cannot use the pass on that day.)
  • A child up to 4 years of age travels free of charge,
  • a child between 4 to 12 years of age (= the last day prior to the 12th birthday) travels for free only if accompanied by an adult passenger,
  • youth between 12 to 28 years of age (= the last day prior to the 28th birthday) with 25 % discount,
  • seniors 60+ get a discount of approx. 10 % (does not apply to German Rail Pass.)

On certain trains, carriers can also charge various supplements on top of the Interrail ticket, for example for:

  • compulsory seat reservations (sometimes including extra services),
  • use of berths and couchettes,
  • use of cabins, cabin berths and reclining seats on the ships of shipping companies and ferries,
  • seasonal supplements between June and September on sea connections between Italy and Greece,
  • port dues and fuel taxes,
  • refreshments, which are included in the supplements on some trains,
  • other services provided on trains (telephone, newspapers…)

Interrail is not valid in the country of residence or in the country indicated as the country of residence on the ticket. The exception is the Interrail Global Pass, which entitles the holder to travel once during its validity period to and from his/her country of residence.

Interrail is valid in Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Northern Ireland, Northern Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom.

The FLEXI ticket is valid for a set number of days within the validity of the Interrail ticket. These days do not have to be consecutive. The number of days a passenger can choose and the validity of the ticket depends on the Interrail pass purchased.

 

The CONTINUOUS ticket is valid continuously for all days within the validity of the pass.

To travel with the Interrail mPass, you need a smartphone, the Rail Planner App and an internet connection (at least once every 72 hours). Once you have purchased an mPass, you will receive an email with your order confirmation and mobile ticket number, which you can then activate in the Rail Planner App.

 

To save your mPass to the app and activate it, follow the instructions in the order confirmation email. You can save the ticket in the app and activate it immediately, or you can postpone the activation for later.

When travelling by train in Europe, you must present your activated mPass and a generated day ticket at the on-board checkpoint. To generate a day ticket, you need to follow the instructions in the app. On board the train, you must always present the app, no screenshot or other means of identification is accepted.

Validity of the Interrail ticket is indicated on the ticket. The holder of the Interrail pas can travel on the selected day between 0:00 do 24:00.

If you are travelling overnight on an overnight train, for FLEXI tickets, simply write the departure date in the ticket message, and the date will also apply for the next day’s journey on that train. However, if you are changing trains the next day, you will need to write the departure date of the train you are changing for in the next box. For overnight sea ferries where the Interrail offer applies, you can enter either the departure date or the arrival date.

At ZSSK ticket offices, pre-sales are set for 3 months before the first day of validity at the latest. For online purchases, this period is extended up to 11 months.

An Interrail ticket purchased at the ZSSK ticket office may only be exchanged at the original ticketing point no later than the day before the first day of validity. The exchange is free of charge.

 

An Interrail ticket purchased at a ZSSK ticket office may be returned only at ZSSK ticket offices no later than the day before the first day of validity, with a penalty of 15 % of the price of the network ticket. Later Interrail cannot be returned.

 

The exchange and return of the Interrail mPass must be made via your online Interrail account.

  • searching for train connections and alternative routes,
  • recording train connections in your travel diary,
  • visualizing your trip on an interactive map,
  • purchasing reservations for selected trains,

  • activating your Interrail mPass mobile ticket, generating daily tickets and presenting the respective ticket to the conductor on the train.
  • After downloading, you do not need to be connected to the internet, unless you would like to use some special features.
