Taking your bicycle on the train
Are you planning a bike trip? Bring your bike with you and let ZSSK take you to your destination. You can even take your e-bike or electric scooter with you.
Transport of the bicycle made easier – as you can have yours with
- in train of category Os, REX, and Zr and R* the bicycle seat reservation is not compulsory. It is only allowed in a selected area marked with a bicycle symbol (these areas are equipped with the special bicycle-holders) or bicycle-labelled areas other than the mobile luggage storage,
- our passengers can transport their bicycles also on the trains of the category Os, REX, Zr and R*. Besides the bicycle-labelled areas on these trains they can transport their bicycles also in the entrance area at the first door of the first coach or at the last door of the last coach
- one person can take maximum 2 bicycles to train (where the bicycle fee and reservation must be paid for each bicycle separately),
- transport of bicycles on the long-distance international trains is only possible in the coaches with areas adjusted for bicycle transport (not in the entrance area) and is subject to compulsory reservation of space.
* the reservation is compulsory in train of any other category and also in night trains R 614/R 615 a R 800/R 801 or fast trains on route Ostrava – Žilina
- This service is provided on majority of the long-distance trains as well as on many Regional Express trains (REX),
- the bicycle transport is subject to compulsory reservation on all trains except of the train category Os and REX,
- one person can take maximum 2 bicycles (where the bicycle fee is to be paid separately for each bicycle).

Are you travelling in a group with bicycles and want to be sure there will be enough space for your bikes? Please contact our Contact Centre (Tel. 18 188, info@slovakrail.sk) with the train numbers, timetable, number of persons and bicycles and contact details of the group leader five days prior to your journey at the latest.
Calls to 18 188 are charged at a higher rate, the cost of these calls will not exceed €0.30/min. The price of the call depends on the tariff of your operator.
Slovakia
- Single one-way ticket (charge) for a bicycle 1,50 €
- 1-day pass for a bicycle 2,50 €
- 24-hour pass for a bicycle 2,50 € (on sale only in the ZSSK E-shop (valid also on the lines of the Tatra Electric Railway and Cog Railway) and in the mobile vending machines on trains of the Cog Railway line (valid only on the lines of the Tatra Electric Railway and of Cog Railway and on the line Poprad-Tatry – Tatranská Lomnica via Studený Potok)
- Weekly pass for a bicycle 6 €
- Reservation fee for a bicycle in the mobile luggage storage 1 € (this reservation is compulsory for all trains except of the train category Os and REX)
- Reservation for a bicycle transported under guidance of the passenger 2 € (includes the passenger seat reservation and bicycle reservation). The reservation is compulsory for all trains except of the train category Os and REX
- Single one-way ticket with included reservation for a bicycle on the train category InterCity costs 4,50 € (the reservation is compulsory)
* the reservation is compulsory in night trains R 614/R 615 a R 800/R 801 or fast trains on route Ostrava – Žilina
Bicycle fee and reservation is to be paid for each transported bicycle. Foldable bicycle can be transported as the hand luggage (in case the size does not exceed the hand luggage proportions).
- Do you use weekly/monthly route pass, season pass for students/pupils (zero-fare or regular fare), weekly/monthly Tatra season pass, pre-paid pass for Integrated Transport in Bratislava Region or the MAXI KLASIK pass? You can buy the route pass for your bike with a special discount valid in the trains of Os and REX category – for a weekly route bicycle pass you pay 4 €, for a monthly pass you pay 8 €.
You can return the bicycle reservation prior to the train departure time (departure time in the boarding station) without cancellation fee.
Czech Republic
- Single one-way ticket for a bicycle 1,50 €
- Reservation for a bicycle in the mobile luggage storage 2 € – available only on long-distance trains (Fast trains, Express trains, EuroCity and EuroNight trains)
- Reservation for a bicycle transported under guidance of the passenger 4 € (includes the passenger seat reservation (2 €) and bicycle reservation (2 €) – available on most daily long-distance trains
- Compulsory reservation and ticket for a bicycle transported under guidance of the passenger on SuperCity trains Pendolino are included in the price of global ticket for passenger (in case of separately purchased reservation for the SuperCity train Pendolino, price of this reservation includes only reservation for bicycle, ticket for bicycle has to be purchased separately for 1,50 €) – when purchasing kindly advise our personnel, that you would like to take your bicycle with you.

On the Passenger and Regional Express trains (routes Kúty – Břeclav, Nové Mesto nad Váhom – Velká nad Veličkou, Trenčianska Teplá – Vlársky průsmyk or Čadca – Mosty Jablunkova) you don’t need the reservation for bicycle.
Austria
There are several train categories operating between Slovakia and Austria (passenger trains, regional express trains (REX), InterCity trains (IC) and Railjet Xpress trains (RJX), on which you can take your bicycle with you.
Transport of bicycles onboard of Passenger trains and Regional Express trains is included in the price of the EUROPA REGIONAL WIEN TICKET (between Bratislava and Vienna), EUROPA REGIONAL MPS and EUROPA REGIONAL weekly/ monthly pass.
Transport of bicycles onboard of the InterCity trains (direct service between Košice and Wien) is possible in the mobile luggage and bicycle storage. One-way single ticket with reservation for bicycle costs 2,50 €.
Transport of bicycles onboard of Railjet Xpress trains is possible in the second class, the reservation of space is compulsory. The ticket for the transport of bicycle (one-way international ticket regardless of the route) costs 5 € and compulsory reservation of space costs 3 €.
Hungary
There are several EuroCity and EuroNight trains operating between Slovakia and Hungary. The ticket for the bicycle transport costs 7 € (5 € international fare and 2 € reservation fee). The price is the same for transport in the mobile luggage storage and for transport under the guidance of the passenger.
Regional cross-border trains do operate from Bratislava-Petržalka station to the Hungarian cities Rajka and Hegyeshalom. The price for the transport of bicycles on these trains depends on the distance travelled (more information is available here).
Poland
Regular train services between Slovakia and Poland are operated to the border station Zwardoń.
Seasonal trains are operated from Medzilaborce to Sanok and Rzeszów and from Poprad to Muszyna. Transport of bicycles onboard these trains is subject to the conditions of domestic carriage, the ticket costs 1,50 € to Zwardoń, Rzeszów or Muszyna.
Ukraine
Transport of bicycles on the passenger trains from Čierna nad Tisou to Čop is possible in the entrance area of the coaches, subject to the conditions of domestic carriage (one-way ticket costs 1,50 €).
Transport of bicycles on trains from Košice to Mukačevo is subject to compulsory reservation of space. There are three bicycle stands available onboard of these trains. The total price of the ticket and compulsory reservation of space is 3,00 €.
