Cancellations and compensations of IC tickets

  • The conditions below are valid if you are traveling by IC train within Slovakia.
  • If you are travelling by IC trains to Vienna, ticket purchase, cancellation and compensation are regulated by special conditions.

The tickets for InterCity trains are available at ticket desks or online until the departure of the train from boarding station. We offer compensation in case of delays or other inconveniences.

  • the tickets are available until the departure of the train from boarding station
  • the price includes the fare and the seat reservation
  • the tickets purchased at the ticket desk are valid on the IC train selected by the passenger (it is not possible to use the IC train ticket on trains of other categories)
  • the tickets purchased online are valid on the IC train selected by the passenger and for the passenger referred to on the ticket (it is not possible to use the IC train ticket on trains of other categories)

  • ticket purchased at a sales desk can be cancelled up to 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the train from boarding station with cancellation fee of 10 percent of the price (min. 1 €),
  • ticket purchased online or in the Ideme vlakom mobile application can be cancelled prior to scheduled departure of the train from boarding station with cancellation fee of 10 percent of the price (min. 1 €),
  • ticket purchased online can be cancelled via the special online form and ticket purchased in the Ideme vlakom mobile application can be cancelled directly in the application
  • in case the Credit Account was used for the purchase, it is possible to add the cancellation fee to your bonus credit
  • in case your cancellation is caused by a fault of Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, no cancellation fee is charged. Please contact our train personnel as soon as possible

Tip: Did you change your travel plans? You may change your InterCity train ticket purchased at ticket desk for another InterCity ticket at our ticket desks equipped with KVC system until the departure of the train from boarding station.

We appreciate your support. If we do not keep to the timetable or comfort on the train, you are entitled to a refund of part of the fare according to the following rules:   

  • 25% of the ticket price in the event of a delay of between 60 and 119 minutes and refreshments at the price of 1 € 
  • 50 % of the price of the travel document in the event of a delay of 120 minutes or more and refreshments at the price of 2 €
  • in the event of a delay during your journey, our company will use reasonable efforts to resolve the situation caused by the delay appropriately. Such a solution takes precedence over the passenger’s individual solution. In the event of a delay or cancellation of a long-distance train, our company will notify the passenger of the options available to him-her to continue his journey to the final destination according to the concluded transport contract within 100 minutes of the scheduled departure time of the delayed or cancelled train. Otherwise, the passenger shall have the right to continue the journey by another means of public transport, our company shall reimburse the passenger for the necessary and reasonable proven costs incurred. 

Confirmation of the delay will be obtained from the train staff of the delayed train or at ZSSK ticket offices.

  • we guarantee the temperature comfort. In case the temperature falls under 15 °C or exceeds 30 °C and we are not able to offer any other seat, you are entitled to refund of 25 % of the single-ticket price
  • in case a coach with your seat was not coupled and we are not able to offer any other seat, you are entitled to refund of 100 % of the single-ticket price
  • if you purchased a 1st Class ticket and the 1st Class couch was not coupled, we refund 50 % of the single ticket price

Please, submit your claim as soon as possible at our ticket desks or in written form on the address: Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, Oddelenie zákazníckych podaní, reklamácie, Rožňavská 1, 83272, Bratislava. It is necessary to add the original tickets (if purchased at ticket desks) and confirmation of incident or temperature discomfort. The confirmation of a delay is not needed. The compensations based on different reasons are summed up to the price of the ticket. We will reimburse the compensation latest within 30 days from acceptance of the request (except of the case when You use the Credit Account to get compensation for train delay online, this procedure is much more quicker).

If You use the Credit Account and You have purchased a domestic InterCity ticket as a registered customer at ticket desks with KVC system or online, it is also possible to get the compensation for a delay online. After signing up to the account, please go to the button “Odškodnenie” (Compensation) and enter the 16-digit number of the IC train ticket. The compensation will be added to Your bonus credit. Currently, the account is available in Slovak version of the website.

Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, as the carrier, does not take responsibility for delays caused by external reasons – for instance natural disasters, accidents on the track, misuse of emergency brake, etc., or if you had been informed about delay before purchasing your ticket.
