Domestic ticket sales

  • At stations: (85 stations are equipped with the KVC system*. You can buy a domestic or international ticket or make a reservation of a seat, couchette or berth. There is a possibility to buy domestic tickets in other smaller stations without KVC* as well.
  • On-line: We offer the possibility to purchase some tickets on-line. These are: domestic tickets, seat reservations, couchettes, berths and some international tickets to Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. Please click here for further information.
  • Aboard a train: If there is not any possibility of purchasing a ticket at station, you can buy your ticket aboard the train without any surcharge. In such case, please look for our train personnel as soon as possible,
    The exception are the Tatra Electric Railways (tracks Poprad Tatry – Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec – Tatranská Lomnica), Cog Railway (track Štrba – Štrbské Pleso) and the line Žilina – Rajec, where the passengers are obliged to purchase a ticket before boarding a train and to validate it in a stamping machine. On the line Žilina – Rajec only the tickets for Integrated Transport of Žilina need to be validated.

You may purchase a ticket in advance, 60 days prior to the departure of the train (Please note that the time limit may be shorter when a new timetable is being launched).

Usually whenever prior to the departure of the train. In smaller stations, we recommend to make your purchase at least five minutes prior to the departure of your train. If a sales point is operated by a contractor partner (not Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko), it is possible that a sales point would be closed earlier.

Your reservation for a domestic train in the station equipped with KVC* can be done at latest 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the train. In case you want to select an exact place, you have to make a reservation at latest 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train from the originating station. If a station is not equipped with KVC system*, you may make a reservation at latest 3 hours prior the departure of the train from the originating station. A seat reservation to 1 plus compartment can be purchased in train without any surcharge.

There is a possibility to buy a couchette or berth ticket from a steward aboard the train as well.

  • Yes, our specialized Reservation Centre  offers such services, including:
    • Reservation of seats, couchettes and berths from databases of foreign railway companies.
    • Reservation of seats, couchettes and berths for foreign railway companies.
    • Processing of special orders, additional coaches requests, orders of coaches for organized groups, orders of special  trains
    • Our employees at the Reservation Centre are available daily from Monday to Friday 8.00  – 14.00 in the premises of the old entrance hall at the main railway station in Bratislava, e-mail: rp.ba@slovakrail.sk
  • If you want to return an un-used ordinary ticket purchased at a sales point at least one day prior to the first day of validity, it is possible to do so at the sales points of Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko. There is a cancellation fee of 10 %, if the situation was not caused by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko. We do not reimburse amount less than 1 €. During the first day of validity it is possible to return a ticket at the same station where it was purchased or at the boarding station. For tickets at distance smaller than 150 kilometres, there are following limits:
    • if a ticket was purchased at least one day prior to the first day of validity, it is possible to return it until 12.00 a.m. of the first day of validity
    • if a ticket was purchased during the day of departure, it is possible to return it up to two hours after the time of purchase
    • if a ticket includes seat reservation, berth or a couchette, it is possible to return it up to 30 minutes after the departure of the train from the boarding station.
  • if you want to return a ticket for zero-fare transport to a train with limited capacity for zero-fare transport (categories EC, EN, Ex, R – fast trains and RR – regional fast trains), it is possible to do it up to 120 minutes after the departure of the train from the boarding station.
  • A seat reservation ticket can be returned in a station equipped with KVC* up to 30 minutes after the departure of the train according to the timetable. Please note that no refund is paid for a returned seat reservation (with certain exceptions stipulated in the ZSSK Terms of Service). A seat reservation ticket to 1 plus compartment can be returned in stations equipped with KVC* to 2 hours prior the scheduled departure of the train from the boarding station. The cancellaction fee is 1 €.
  • A couchette or berth ticket can be returned to 2 hours (when purchased in stations without KVC*, the limit is 3 hours) prior to the scheduled departure of the train. For each returned couchette place we deduce a cancellation fee of 1 € from the refunded amount. The cancellation fee for each berth place is 2 €.
