Tickets
Last update: 01.08.2011
A passenger has to buy a train ticket before getting on the train. We recommend using the advance ticket sale (60 days for domestic and international transport), or ticket-vending machines at some stations.
A passenger is obliged to present the ticket at any time when requested by an authorised railway employee. The same applies to seat reservations (couchettes, berths) in case of trains/coaches with obligatory seat/ couchette/ berth reservation.
Fare
The fare is calculated pursuant to the pricelist based on the actual journey kilometres. Distances in kilometres are published in the Train timetable.
Fare from the stations of Tatra Electric Railways to other ŽSR stations and vice versa is calculated as a sum total of fare for the two lines. The same procedure applies to the fare from Cog Railway stations Štrba – Štrbské Pleso and electric railways between Trenčianska Teplá and Trenčianske Teplice.
Fare includes ticket price and a surcharge for SC, EC or IC trains.

A ticket for distances up to 100 km is valid on the day marked on it and the next day till 4 a.m.
Ticket for distances over 100 km is valid on the day marked on it and the next day till 12 p.m.
Return tickets for distances up to 100 km have equal validity as single tickets up to 100 km.
