Trains with possible seat reservations?
When travelling for longer distances we recommend buying a seat reservation in the train. Reservations (seats, couchettes and berths) in domestic and international transport are sold via the iKVC system (the innovated Comprehensive Customer Service).
You may reserve seats in all trains of EuroCity and InterCity category as well as in fast trains and some international express trains.
When travelling by a couchette or berth coach you have to buy a couchette or berth ticket pursuant to the calendar of strong and weak days, which serves as the reservation document.
Travelling by certain domestic and international trains may be linked to an obligatory seat reservation. These trains are marked by an R in a square in the train timetable.
When travelling by an IC train with obligatory seat reservation, besides a ticket for given coach class, you have to pay a surcharge and buy a seat reservation pursuant to the calendar of strong and weak days. When travelling by SC, EC or IC trains without obligatory seat reservation, you have to buy a ticket for the given coach class, a surcharge according to the type of your train, and- if you wish - also a seat reservation. If you board a train with obligatory seat reservation without one, you have to pay a fee of 3,30€. However, by paying this fee you are not entitled for a seat automatically.
Other trains with the possibility to buy a seat reservation are marked with an R in the train timetable in the section “Overview of direct coaches”. A coach with seat reservations may be used also without one. However, if you are approached by a passenger with a valid reservation for the given seat, you have to vacate the seat. If all coaches in the train offer seat reservations, the occupied seats are indicated.

When and where is it possible to buy reservation documents?
Reservation documents are issued at all stations with an open ticket sale point. A seat reservation may be bought only personally. Telephone requests for reservations are not handled.
At stations equipped with KVC terminal it is possible to issue a seat reservation from 60 days to 10 minutes before train departure from the given station. Couchette and berth ticket for all trains may be issued from 60 days to 2 hours before the regular train departure from the first station. Afterwards, couchette and berth tickets may be bought onboard the train from the train guard.
If an international train begins the route abroad, you may buy the reservation documents from 60 days to 6 hours before the regular train departure from the first station.
At stations not equipped with KVC terminal, you may reserve seats only when the ticket sale point is open, from 60 days to 2 hours before the train departure.
