Luggage and Bicycles

Bicycle transport in trains of Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, a.s. is easier now. It is not required to purchase another luggage travel ticket when changing trains anymore; nowadays, only one ticket is issued for the whole journey together with the ticket of the passenger.
ZSSK offers the following services to its customers:
- Mobile bicycle compartment, with the carrier responsible for transport
- Simplified bicycle transport, with the customer responsibility for transport
Mobile luggage compartment – – the passenger loades and unloades the luggage himself/herself to and from the designated area. Thereafter, the responsibility for the luggage is taken over by the carrier. If you are travelling with a bicycle, you are obliged to dismantle all easily removable parts, e.g. tool bag. In case of IC trains with obligatory seat reservations, it is necessary to buy luggage reservation for the price of 0,66 EUR together with the luggage travel ticket. A child’s pram is transported free of charge. However, in case of IC trains with obligatory seat reservation, it is necessary to buy luggage reservation for the pram for the price of 0,66 EUR.
Simplified luggage transport – – the passenger loads and unloads the luggage himself/herself to and from the designated area in the first or last coach, through the first door of the first coach or the last door of the last coach with seats. Bicycles may be transported in coaches marked with a bicycle symbol. When using services of simplified luggage transport, the customer is responsible for the luggage. Transport of bicycles and luggage is included in the price of the luggage travel ticket, prams are transported free of charge.
In case of both services, generally you may not load more luggage than the capacity of the designated area allows. The carrier may refuse to transport the excessive luggage.
Transport by order
If a larger, organised group of passengers with bicycles announces the transport requirements in advance, in certain cases ZSSK is able to provide for a special coach to transport a higher number of bicycles (in “Zr”-local express trains and “Os”-local trains). The orders may be sent to Sale Centres or to Contact Centre that will then recommend transport possibilities.
Tariff conditions for domestic luggage transport
One-way ticket (mobile luggage compartment and simplified luggage transport): 1,32€
One-day ticket: 1,99€
Weekly ticket: 5,97€
Obligatory bicycle reservation in IC trains: 0,66€
Voluntary bicycle reservation in selected fast trains (R): 0,66€.
Trains allowing bicycle transport
Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, a.s. offers services of simplified bicycle transport on domestic lines in special designated areas in coaches or in mobile luggage compartments, the latter being marked by a pictogram of a suitcase in the timetable. In mobile luggage compartments of IC trains and of other designated trains, it is obligatory to buy a reservation for the bicycle; in other trains selected for bicycle transport, the reservation of a bicycle space is possible, but not obligatory.
