ZSSK is a new and young company on the Slovak railway market, but at the same time a very ambitious company. It was established on 1 January 2005 by the split-up of Železničná spoločnosť, a.s. as one of its successor joint-stock companies.
The split-up project of the former freight and passenger operator was based on the principles of the state transport policy as regards transport and commercial activities of rail passenger and freight transport.
As regards the proprietary relations, the founder and hundred-percent shareholder of ZSSK is the Slovak Republic. The state’s rights as the shareholder of ZSSK are represented by the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic. The company bodies are: the General Assembly, the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Board, and the Director General.
